Skateboarding's Biggest Fools
The following is a list of confessions, news stories, fads, and just about anything that’s pretty foolish about skateboarding. Although we do wish that some of these were April Fool's jokes, they aren't. Don't take it to heart though, it's all in good fun.
Short Shorts + Inverts = Bad Idea
We know it was the style back then to wear neon shorts that were a little too high at times, but c'mon. Watching a dude do an invert while he's sporting shorts only chicks at the beach should wear, is not exactly pleasing to the eye. How were people able to watch that? Thank god that trend died.
Everyone Who Bought A Pair Of Osiris D3's
Oh, c'mon, don't get too offended, one of us in the office actually owned a pair as a grom, so you're not alone. If you bundled up all of the technical mumbo jumbo (air bubbles and high tech wind pants included) from the late 90's/early millennium, and tossed it in the microwave for three minutes, this is what would've popped out. Look at these things! Here's what they do have going for them though: it's one of the only shoes to not bite a Vans shoe design, Dave Mayhew probably made bank off of these things (as he should), and if you're lucky enough to still have a pair preserved, you can walk on the moon with them when the world ends in 2012.
Putting Your Trucks on Wrong
A brave confession from Chris from Allentown, PA.
"This happened a few years ago. It was my first time at the park after setting up my brand new board that wasn't from K Mart. I put it together correctly (or so I had thought), and figured I would skate the local park near me. So I'm pushing around and I can't skate straight for the life of me. Literally not being able to do anything, I slam. Some dude who rides for the local shop picked my board up and started to hand it back to me, but then stared at my board and just began cracking up. Turns out I put my trucks on backwards, and everyone at the park was pretty much laughing at me. Fast forward to today and I skate with those dudes pretty regularly now."
Face Tat's
And we thought tight jeans and getting your crews name tattooed was a fad, but this is something else. No henna tattoos here, this is the real deal. 100%, for life, what ever you want, on your face. We do have to say though, anyone who is dedicated enough to get stuff permanently tatted on their face has to get some props. But, you don't see us getting uTURF tatted on our cheeks anytime soon.
Bob Burnquist And The Magnet Rumor
No this is not the title of Bob's new band, we're talking about the rumor that was floating around that Bob used magnets on his feet while skating the Mega Ramp. This might be the foolish thing we've ever heard. Do people really think that someone would stoop as low as installing magnets in their board and shoes? Bob is seriously on a whole other level when it comes to this stuff, have a little faith in the guy -- he's amazing!
Police Ban For Dropping In
It's been talked about here before, and the skaters are in no way the fools in this video. Watch for yourself. A 30-day suspension for dropping in on a vert wall? Give us a break!
